Florian Klinger, born in 1991 near Vienna, Austria, has been studying classical percussion at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and jazzvibraphone education at the JAM Music Lab University Vienna.
Since 2011, Florian is a percussionist at the Volksopera Vienna and since 2013 lecturer for jazz mallets at the JAM Music Lab University Vienna.
In 2013 he founded the performance group “Louie’s Cage Percussion”, an up-and-coming ensemble in the international music scene, with other aspiring percussionists.
2016-2017 he studied with Stefon Harris in New York City and at the William Paterson University NJ with Kevin Norton, Bill Charlap, Aaron Goldberg, etc. Florian was selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency program
2017, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., with artistic director Jason Moran.
In 2020 he released his first record as a leader ‘ONE’ on Cracked Anegg Records.
He has played in orchestras, bands, and ensembles of different music styles with artists such as Benny Golson, Dick Hyman, Fabio Luisi, Vienna State Opera, RSO Vienna, Bob Mintzer, Danny Grissett, Daniel Hope, Elina Garanca, Jose Carreras, Diana Damrau, Rolando Villazón, Erwin Schrott, Thomas Gansch, and more.
