Percussion Tutor

Erwin Falk was born in 1977 in Mistelbach, Austria. His training at the Preparatory Programme at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien was followed by a Diploma in Instrumental Studies at the same institute with Roland Altmann (Timpani and Percussion) and Anton Mühlhofer (Drumset and Latin-Percussion), which he graduated in 1997 with superior success. He completed his studies in the class of Leonhard Schmidinger (Percussion) and Bogdan Bacanu (Marimba) at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz. In this years he founded the Duo Battuta with his fellow student Martin Grubinger and together they were prize-winners at several national competitions.

Erwin Falk began his professional career as a timpani player in 2000 at the Tonkünstler Orchester Niederösterreich before he was engaged as a timpani player at the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic in 2007. As a chamber musician he was a member in various ensembles (e.g. die Reihe, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Duo Battuta, Supercussion, Schlagfertig, Ensemble Berlin-Wien) and collaborated with musicians such as Martin Grubinger, András Schiff, Dénes Várjon, artis Quintett and many others.

Erwin Falk thaught interim at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien in 2016 and lead the percussion class at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg from 2021 to 2023 together with Guido Marggrander and Martin Grubinger. He gives masterclasses in Europe, America and Asia on a regular basis.
